That quote is a hard and true statement. People want to follow people of good character. As we work on a team, we must rely on character, and how our own standards fit within the mix. Focusing on character growth will raise our abilities in multiple ways.
Most people focus too much on competence and too little on character. Many times, our short-comings are a result of character and not capacity or potential.
Character growth only happens intentionally, and it determines the level of our personal growth. Without personal growth, we have no chance of raising our abilities.
