What Are Your Big Rocks?

If the big rocks don’t go in first, they aren’t going to fit in later. — Stephen Covey

I love to ask, “What Big Rocks are you working on?” Simply put, the Big Rocks are our priorities. Schedule them first. They are the tasks, projects, and goals we must absolutely accomplish. These are the things that are considered mission critical, not just items on a hap-hazard to do list.

We should have Big Rocks both personally and professionally. They go together like peanut butter and jelly. Personal Big Rocks are things like a well-designed morning routine of quiet / devotional time, affirmations, exercise, reading (or listening) for personal growth. Action steps that track our personal goals of being healthy physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Professional Big Rocks are the priority action steps to take us in the direction of our career or business goals.

What’s hugely important to you right now? Those are your “Big Rocks”. Schedule them. I do want to encourage you to put your personal ones in first then your professional ones. Putting “work” first and self-care last is a recipe for burnout.
